Vintage Design
Parigina is a sophisticated chair designed and realised in Italy in the mid 40s.
The Chiavari chair, also known as the Chiavarina, or Tiffany chair, is a wooden chair of Ligurian design.
The success of the Chiavarina declined following the introduction of the Austrian chairs of Thonet which were mass-produced, less expensive, and consisting of few elements easily assembled, and in the second half of the twentieth century, following competition from industrial production. The architect and designer Gio Ponti was inspired by the structural system of the Chiavari chair for his Superleggera chair of 1955.
The Chiavarina chair was designed with each component made for the specific stresses it will carry. It was entirely hand-crafted by expert woodworker’s hands. It is a model of grand prestige, this chair is found in important meeting locations, auditoriums, and diplomatic offices all around the world. The body is entirely made of ivory lacquered wood and the finishing touches are entirely made of gold leaf and are applied by hand. The wicker seating comes in perfect original conditions which is a rarity to find.
This timeless beauty shows an ergonomic design and historical significance make them an alluring addition to any interior. These chairs not only serve as functional seating but also stand as artistic expressions of a bygone era, offering a unique connection to the rich history of Italian design.
Parigina comes to our day in really good conditions with no broken or missing parts and a really solid structure. It has a few patina marks which is not compromising at all the beauty and the functionality of this rare chair.
A timeless seating which perfectly represents the beauty of antique Italian Craftsmanship.
