This chair remains the best-known design by the esteemed French designer and architect René Herbst (1891-1982). This iconic 1928 work has been given pride of place in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a testament to its enduring importance in art and design history. The MATERIAL that makes up the seat and back of the chair is known as “Sandows”, which is the French term for elastic bands.
